Birsa Munda Biography Education, Place of Birth and Family Information
Birsa Munda was born in Ulihatu village of Ranchi. His father's name was Sugna Munda and his mother's name was Karmi Hatu. After his birth, his family started living in Kurubda. His family used to wander from place to place in search of work.
Most of his childhood was spent in Chalkad. As a child, he used to go to the forest to graze sheep, and play the flute there. He knew how to play the flute very well. He was educated in his maternal uncle's village Ayubhattu.

Birsa Munda's Beginning of war against the British
By uniting the entire tribal society under his leadership, he started the war against the British. But Birsa Munda had neither the numbers nor the means to fight the huge army of the British.
Therefore, guerilla warfare was resorted to. Thousands of tribals fought the British under the leadership of Birsa Munda, but how long the tribals fighting with arrows and spears could withstand the guns and cannons of the British army, so eventually many tribals were killed but Birsa Munda survived.
In August 1897, Birsa and his four hundred soldiers armed with arrowheads and spears attacked the Khunti police station. In 1898, the Mundas clashed with the British forces on the banks of the Tanga river, in which the British army was defeated,
but in return, many tribal leaders of that area were arrested. Birsa was addressing his public meeting on Dombari hill in January 1900, when there was another conflict on Dombari hill, in which many women and children were killed.
But what the British army's gun and cannon could not do, it was done by greed. The British officials announced a reward of 500 rupees for the capture of Birsa Munda and the people of Birsa Munda got him caught for five hundred rupees.
The British army arrested Birsa Munda at Chakradharpur on 3 March 1900. It was well known to the British officials that if Birsa Munda was hanged, the entire tribal society would turn against him and revolt with immense power.
That is why it is believed that the British army killed him by giving him slow poison. However, it was told that he died due to cholera disease. The day he died was 9 June 1900.

Birsa prepared an army against the British, which was named Gorilla Army. When Birsa was resting with his army in the Chakrapur Jamkopai forest, then on 3 February 1900,
the British government took Birsa and 460 workers with him into custody and kept them imprisoned in Ranchi jail.
Birsa and all the workers were subjected to a lot of atrocities, many workers were killed in jail and Birsa died on 9 June 1900.
When asked the reason for his death, the British government told him to be suffering from a disease called cholera, while he was not showing any symptoms of cholera. Thus he died in jail, but he is still remembered for his good deeds.
